About Us

Who We Are

Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church is located at 688 Highland Ave. in Waynesboro, Virginia. We sit on the corner of Highland and Bridge Avenues. We are a relatively small congregation with about 50-60 people in worship on Sunday. But we are a very active congregation. Most attenders are also members of a small group or Sunday School class, and many people are involved in various mission projects through out the week and year.

In 1945 the Evangelical United Brethren Church began holding services in different homes around Waynesboro. In 1947 the church was organized with 36 charter members and Rev. David F. Glovier was appointed as the first pastor in September 1947. Excavation for the present building was done in July 1948, with Homer Frasher as Building Supervisor. The first service held in the present building was held on August 7, 1949.

On April 7, 1968, the congregation voted to change the name from Waynesboro Evangelical United Brethren Church to Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church. This change was in anticipation of the merger of the Evangeical United Brethren and the Methodist denominations. The church has been shepherded by 14 pastors since 1947 and though we remember our rich heritage with joy, we look forward to the great things God has in store for his church in the future.
